Dear friend,

From now until April 15th, my office will be collecting shelf stable food items to donate to the ECHO – Ecumenical Community Helping Others. The organization is aimed at giving food and financial help to people with short-term emergencies, as well as providing clothes and household items to people with low incomes. ECHO serves several zip codes within our jurisdiction, meaning your donations will be pouring right back into Franconia District.

The flyer above shows all the donation items we are accepting. Your donations can be dropped off at my office in the Franconia Government Center. If you want to learn more about ECHO and the great work they are doing for our residents, you can click on the link below.

Lake Accotink Community Survey

Lake Accotink is a beloved resource for many residents of Fairfax County and the region. When it became apparent in 2016 that the lake would need to be dredged in order to maintain an open, boatable resource, there were many unknowns and a different economy. Current Analysis has suggested that Lake Accotink not be dredged due to significant community and environmental impacts and excessive costs. Instead, county staff recommend that Lake Accotink Park master planning process resume in 2023 in order to create and implement an economically and environmentally sustainable vision for this valuable public space. The purpose of this survey is to gain invaluable insight from the community and visitors about their vision for Lake Accotink Park. See the link here for completing the survey and further information on the project: https://publicinput.com/a7178

Fairfax County Green Business Partners Forum

The Fairfax County Office of Environmental and Energy Coordination, in partnership with the Fairfax County Department of Economic Initiatives and Smart City Works, is hosting a Fairfax County Green Business Partners Forum on Friday, March 31.

The goal of this Forum is to showcase energy- and climate-success stories and provide opportunities to network with green business leaders throughout Fairfax County.

At the Green Business Partners Forum, you will learn about:

  • Cost-effective pathways to achieving carbon neutrality for your business, including federal, state, and local financing opportunities.
  • Energy benchmarking and case studies to identity energy upgrades that could result in savings for your business.
  • Workforce development to meet the needs of a carbon neutral economy.
  • Fairfax County’s new Green Business Partners program and how to sign on as an inaugural member.

The Forum will promote peer-to-peer learning on how green business practices can lower operational costs, reduce waste, and contribute to a healthier community.

Event is free and will be held in-person at the Courtyard by Marriott Tysons McLean, Virginia, and space is limited. If you’re a business leader in Fairfax County who is working towards carbon neutrality or is ready to start, we encourage you to register for the Green Business Partners Forum today.
